Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of the website, including its articles and search tools. Using any portion of the service indicates agreement with every term below. Anyone who does not accept them must discontinue use.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no government affiliation. Neither it nor its advertising partners provides a service for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other decisions regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Its purpose is to organize official criminal-record resources for Halifax County, Virginia. It is neither a private investigation company nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site with no connection to a public office. It does not hold official records, retrieve them for visitors, perform government background checks, or submit filings.

Its content routes readers to Halifax County offices, Virginia courts, Virginia State Police CARE/CCRE, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Some pages also display tools operated by outside companies.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use of the service is conditioned on the following restrictions:

  • Do not violate a local, Virginia, or federal law
  • Do not stalk, threaten, intimidate, or harass another person
  • Do not use site content for an FCRA-regulated decision
  • Do not attempt unauthorized access to any system
  • Do not operate bots, scrapers, or automated collection tools against the pages
  • Do not interfere with availability or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Harassment, stalking, intimidation, threats, and unlawful discrimination based on information found here or through a linked service are forbidden. Virginia Code § 9.1-912 specifically restricts misuse of the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Registry publication supports public safety awareness, not confrontation, vigilantism, or prohibited adverse decisions.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create consumer reports, credit reports, or official background checks. Site content and linked tools may not be used to:

  • Make an employment decision
  • Evaluate a housing application
  • Set credit or insurance terms
  • Determine eligibility for a covered license, permit, or benefit
  • Carry out any other FCRA-regulated purpose

A lawful covered purpose requires an appropriate official Virginia channel or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Site material is general information, not legal advice. Only a licensed Virginia attorney can assess how a Halifax County charge, warrant, conviction, sealing rule, or expungement law applies to a particular situation.

6. No Warranties

All content and services are supplied "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • Information will always be complete, accurate, or current
  • Access will remain continuous
  • Pages will be free of defects or security weaknesses
  • An outside search provider will return complete or correct results

Charges, dispositions, custody status, sealing, and expungement can change a record. Gaps and delays are unavoidable. No site statement replaces a record certified or confirmed by the court, sheriff, Virginia State Police, or other custodian.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to public offices, Virginia court portals, legal resources, and private services outside our control. We do not assume responsibility for an external site's content, availability, pricing, privacy practices, or terms. Review the destination's rules before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Halifax County Criminal History or its content partners. Copying, distribution, modification, or derivative use requires prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage arising from site use or reliance on information obtained here or from a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, demands, proceedings, legal fees, and related costs caused by your use of the service or violation of these terms.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms. Any proceeding concerning use of the service must be brought in a court located in Virginia.

12. Changes to These Terms

These conditions may be revised. An updated version takes effect when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in force. The affected language will be adjusted only as far as needed for enforcement.
